The Euphoria Quilt Project
2nd Story
522 W Short St, Lexington, Kentucky 40507
1:00pm - 4:00pm EDT
2nd Story is excited to host the Euphoria Quilt Project, a collaborative quilting endeavor that celebrates and supports trans and queer communities. It commenced in June 2023 with the goal of creating a communal archive of gender-expansive joy during a time of unprecedented persecution and scapegoating of trans and gender-variant people.
The project's facilitators have collected fabric blocks, sewn by over 165 people from 40 states and five countries, that answer the question, “What does your gender expansive joy look like?” Traveling to different cities and hosting quilting bees, the Euphoria Quilt Project invites participants to add their own blocks to the quilt, while also connecting with each other. Once complete, the hope is that it will express a truth that trans and queer people have always known: that joy is far from frivolous, and it is ours to have.
There will be a quilting bee held at 2nd Story on Sunday, September 22, and all are welcome to join, regardless of sewing experience. Come by and leave your mark!
NOTE: the leader of this project wants to ensure the event is accessible to people who are immunocompromised, and requests all participants wear face masks, which will be provided.
