An evening of avant-garde sonic exploration, conceptual performance, and interdisciplinary dialogue featuring three singular voices in contemporary experimental art.
Featured Artists: Irene Moon – Blurring the boundaries between scientific inquiry and performance, Irene Moon integrates entomology with experimental lecture, crafting meticulously researched yet deeply uncanny performances. Her work interrogates the structures of knowledge dissemination, transforming the natural sciences into an arena of poetic dissonance and theatrical inquiry. https://www.begoniasociety.org/index.html
Ed Sunspot (Robert Beatty) – Best known for his iconic, surrealist album artwork and contributions to contemporary visual culture, Robert Beatty steps into his sonic alter ego, Ed Sunspot. A sound artist and experimental musician, his work explores the tactile and ephemeral nature of auditory experience. Utilizing analog synthesis, found and recorded sound, and improvisational structures, he evokes a hypnotic interplay between organic and artificial sonic environments, challenging the listener’s perception of space and time. His visual work has graced covers for artists such as Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, and Oneohtrix Point Never, while his soundscapes offer a similarly immersive, dreamlike sensibility. https://robertbeattyart.com/
Host/Emcee for the evening: Hearty White – A deconstructionist of language and cultural narrative, Hearty White’s performances oscillate between spoken-word incantation and existential radio theatre. His work, informed by the rhythms of late-night monologues and subconscious free association, challenges conventional modes of storytelling, offering a fractured yet profound meditation on selfhood and society. You can hear Hearty every week on the airwaves of New York City every week at https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/HA
A rare convergence of visionary artists engaging the liminal spaces between sound, language, and science.
