The Fred Parker Giles Gallery kicks off the spring semester with two solo presentations featuring Kentucky-based artists and educators Jack Girard and Doreen Maloney. In the upper and mezzanine galleries, Jack Girard, Professor Emeritus of Transylvania University, showcases recent work in Figurations. Girard’s work, a prolific array of painting, collage, drawing, and mixed media, employ the figure as an compositional and mark making catalyst.
Simultaneously, the lower gallery hosts Elevated fears and suspended dreams, recent work by Doreen Maloney, Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky. Maloney’s exhibit centers itself around three independent installations that delve into themes of identity, trauma, and the pandemic through suspended forms, light, and AI generated poetry.
Both exhibits are on view January 25 - February 16, 2024. Meet the exhibiting artists at a public reception on Thursday, January 25 from 5-7PM. Engage with the exhibitors at an informal Gallery Talk on Thursday, February 8, from 5-6PM. All events are free and open to the public. Giles Gallery programming is made possible by the EKU School of Art & Design (SoAD), the Institute for Creative & Collaborative Arts (ICCA), and the College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences (CLASS).
