Saturday, September 7th
7:00pm - 9:00pm EDT
Admission Fee: $30 advance/$35 doors (proceeds benefit KFTC, Hindman Settlement School, and the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition)

This event will feature 11 writers, 4 musical acts, and 2 people sharing their personal story from the 2022 floods in Central Appalachia - and discuss the lingering challenges facing both the region and the country that the floods highlighted.

This event is celebrating the release of the new anthology Troublesome Rising from Hindman Settlement School. This anthology looks at the 2022 floods in central Appalachia, the response, and the challenges we face. We'll be joined by 11 of the folks who contributed to the book, including former Kentucky Poet Laureates Frank X Walker and George Ella Lyon; writers from flood impacted communities like Mandi Fugate Sheffel, Melissa Helton, Robert Gipe, and Amelia Kirby; and others with deep ties to Appalachia.

We'll also be hearing from two KFTC members, Willa Johnson and Wesley Bryant, who were displaced by the floods. They'll share calls to action on how to not just support folks impacted by flooding - but the deeper challenges of fighting climate change and affordable housing that both the region and nation face.

The event also will include musical performances from Daniel Martin Moore, The Farmer and the Crow, Raison d'Etre, and A.p. Harbor.

Proceeds from the event will be split between KFTC, Hindman Settlement School, and the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition. Roebling Books will be selling copies of the book at the event.
