Writing Powerful Couplets with Christopher McCurry

Join Christopher McCurry, author of The Gospel of God Boy, on an exploration on the power of couplets to propel your poems. Participants will learn how to think about and use one of poetry's most famous and versatile organizational elements. Thematically, the workshop will focus on how a poem exists in the space between the poet and the person and the poet and the reader, much like a prayer. Participants will be engaged in an exercise to write a poem in couplets, as well as given an opportunity to share.

Christopher McCurry is the author of Open Burning and The Gospel of God Boy (Accents Publishing). A high school English teacher, Christopher was awarded Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year in 2021 for his work as a poet and advocate for equity in Kentucky schools. In 2015, he co-founded Workhorse, a publishing company and community for working writers. He’s the creator of The Poetry Gauntlet and the Young Writers Conference and lives in Lexington, KY with his wife, daughter, newborn son, and two dogs.
