In July of 2022, Letcher County, Kentucky and surrounding areas experienced flooding that wreaked havoc on the communities there. This included the extensive damage of the Appalshop Archive. Founded in 1969, Appalshop has been creating, collecting, and preserving film, recordings, and print material. Their state-of-the-art, climate-controlled vault holds thousands of hours of recordings, as well as photographs and print materials that—together—span almost a century of life and history in Appalachia. This very archive was flooded, but hope is not lost!

Join us at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 04 to learn all about the cleanup and recovery process of Appalshop Archive's invaluable collection. Tickets are free and seating is first come, first served. The event will include samples of Appalshop work (film & video) as well as remarks from Appalshop Archive representatives and supporters. The purpose of the event is to highlight the ongoing recovery of this important cultural archive. This is a time sensitive issue, so please help support while there's still a chance!
