Jared Hamilton's "Familiar Paths"

Jared Hamilton is a photographer based in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He's covered musicians and foodways; politics and celestial dreamscapes.

Familiar Paths is a series of black and white photos shot on medium format film. Together, the collection is about the feeling of nostalgia that Appalachian people feel when they move away from the region. Whether folks move for school or opportunities in other areas, once gone, it is easy to forget all the complicated parts of life in these mountains — and remember only the beauty.
