Opening Reception: Unsupported

Join us for the opening reception of Unsupported, a group show of regional Architecture and Design faculty members!

Unsupported showcases work by regional faculty members in an effort to connect a group of emerging, experimental Architects and Designers. The exhibition features select evolving practices from the Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky College of Design, and University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. There has been a significant creative renaissance in many Midwestern cities, but that renewal has also come with its own demands: difficulty meeting low construction budgets with high design ambitions, dramatic changes in urban demographics, and complex negotiations between dual careers in academia and practice. Unsupported is intended to give voice to younger faculty who negotiate the complexities of working in a gig economy, with limited patronage and teaching opportunities, and the perils of an often nomadic practice. The condition of being unsupported is a constraint but it is also an opportunity to define what it means in the context of timely, contemporary work.
