The Student Organization for Art History (SOFAH) at the University of Kentucky School of Art and Visual Studies invite undergraduate and masters students to submit abstracts of papers for presentation at our 3rd Annual Art History and Visual Studies Symposium. The event, titled “Art and Commerce,” welcomes research-based papers in any period or culture that examines fine art, design, mass media, popular culture, and/or the art market. Topics might include (but are not limited to) representations of commerce in visual and material culture as well as the roles of commercial technologies, markets, or

patronage in shaping art and design. We invite students committed to exceptional and original research to submit abstracts for consideration. We welcome a wide range of scholarship; including but not limited to research from the fields of art history, architecture and design, economics, and other aspects of the humanities that fit within the general theme of “art and commerce.”

The deadline for submitting abstracts of no more than 500 words and a short bio is March 15, 2021. Abstracts and bios should be submitted to uksofah@gmail.com with SYMPOSIUM ABSTRACT in the subject line.

The Symposium will run Saturday, April 25, 2021 from 10AM to 4PM. Each presenter will give a PowerPoint presentation of maximum 20 minutes. If possible, the symposium will take place at the UK School of Art & Visual Studies Bolivar Gallery, with the option of presenting remotely via Zoom.
